GREAT
VALLEY ASSOCIATION POSITION ON YELLOW SPRINGS ROAD
PASSED AT 3/20/01 BOARD MEETING
The Great Valley Association has been working in a
collaborative effort with the “Citizens for the Preservation of Historic
Yellow Springs Road” and the Tredyffrin Planning Commission in dealing with
the future status of the road. The
Association supports the request of the “Citizens” to have Tredyffrin
Township take back the road to preserve its’ historic character.
George Washington and the Continental Army used Yellow Springs Road to
transport soldiers to a hospital at Yellow Springs during their stay at Valley
Forge in the winter of 1777-1778.
The Association also supports the
improvement of the road surface and shoulders, which includes widening of the
shoulders up to eighteen (18”) inches per side WHERE NECESSARY as well as the
installation of traffic calming devices. These
improvements will provide for the proper maintenance of the road and for the
safety of all those who use or live along this historic roadway.
