Re: Route 202 Section 300 Road Surface

Dear Carole,

When I called your office to discuss the status of the follow up meeting for the road surface in Section 300 your assistant, Mary, advised me that Penn DOT has a study underway for the evaluation of the road surfaces, they have no additional information at this time and see no need for an additional meeting.

The purpose of the second meeting with industry, which was agreed to by all of the participants at the September 20, 2001 meeting, is to acquaint all concerned with the merits of asphalt versus a concrete road surface, not just Penn DOT. It will also provide a perfect venue for Penn DOT to explain its study and perhaps make some adjustments based upon the information revealed during this second round.

No doubt you will recall the very favorable comments made in this regard by Mr. Ken Atherton Project Consultant during the February session of the Project Advisory Committee at which time he endorsed the follow up meeting as being an important consideration in the final decision to be made in August 2001.

With all due respect to Penn DOT the Great Valley Association sees a definite need for the second round with industry and urge you and Senator Thompson to proceed with your sponsorship of this event. We understand that you have tentatively scheduled April 26, 2001 for this purpose, which should be just enough time to invite the participants

We look forward to your favorable consideration of this project.

                                                                                                       Yours truly,

                                                                                                 Joseph F. Maxwell
